Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and was the last port of call on the Canary Island cruise.
I had booked an excursion, but cancelled it as a group of friends were going on the hop on hop off bus, and it sounded like a good idea.
Again, when we docked into the harbour the magnificent sight of Lisbon stood before us. The whole city was set on a hill with amazing buildings of churches and houses, in every colour imaginable. I was eager to get off the ship and explore.
We bought a ticket when we got outside for 15 euros and a map to guide us round the city. We immediately got on the first bus towards the centre. We sat on the top deck. it was very warm. There were headphones to plug into a guy telling us about all the sights, there was also lovely music in between.
We got off the first stop and wandered around, there were marvellous archways, and a beautiful monument where Day Acheson and I did some empowering qigong whilst Sandy took pictures, it felt good.
We wandered into the centre, amongst the magnificent colourful buildings, there were waterfalls, more monuments, I looked up an alley and at the top in the distance was a castle. The whole place was just an array of colour and ornately detailed architecture painted in every colour imaginable, sometimes decorated with pictures and patterns.
We hopped on and off the bus a few times, but in the end decided to stay on as it was such a big city and we only had a certain amount of time. We saw a lot of Lisbon on that bus.
We went past a lovely cathedral that was opposite a harbour and set amongst the deep blue sky, it looked awesome. We saw a statue in the distance of what looked similar to a Christ the redeemer statue in Brazil, with a suspension bridge in the foreground, the scene was set amongst a hazy mist and was quite remarkable.
Whilst on the bus some lovely music was playing, and sitting there in the sun being driven around the beautiful Lisbon felt like we were in a moving film.
We saw the old part of Lisbon and the new, and I had never seen such a beautiful city. I’m not a city person, I much prefer the nature of lakes mountains and beaches, but this city was something else, and to my mind well worth another visit with more time.
Have a great Tuesday
