Put Yourself First and Then……
Although Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, often the person who arranges everything from the present buying to wrapping them, to cooking the dinner, is the woman of the house.
I know from experience that it can also be a very stressful time too, with all the pressure for everything to go perfect.
But with a bit of forethought it doesn’t have to be this way, For my philosophy is I take care of myself first, then I look after everyone else.
I know this isn’t the norm for women, as they notoriously put everyone else before themselves.
But if you really think about it, by the time you’ve done all the work rushed around, cooked the dinner it doesn’t feel much like enjoyment, fun or season of goodwill, it feels like hard work, resentment and exhaustion, and this doesn’t benefit anyone because if you can’t look after yourself first how can you look after anyone else.
So what is the answer? delegate, think ahead to what other members of the family can do, get the kids to wash up after the dinner, get the old man peeling the veg.
Plan ahead to what can be done before the big day, one year I bought all the Christmas dinner from the frozen food shop Iceland, it all cooked in next to no time, no one could tell the difference and I was able to relax and enjoy myself too.
This year the family and I are eating out, I can’t wait. I’ve never done it before and I know it will feel wonderful not to have all that clearing up to do.
Make your priority to have a feel good day rather than the perfect day, say to yourself – how can I make Christmas Day the best so far, and fully appreciate what Christmas is really all about, and that is to feel the love of those closest to you.
Have a great Eve of Christmas Eve.
